This year at Excel London, over 15,000 visitors attended the IP Expo Europe 2018 to explore the new technology that’s changing the way we work. Set to re-brand as the Digital Transformation Expo next year, the two-day event was heavily focused on how to successfully implement innovation across the industry. With a standout seminar from an astronaut and David Bowie cover artist…

Chris Hadfield on Digital Transformation

For his opening keynote at IP Expo, ex-astronaut and first Canadian to walk in space, Chris Hadfield tackled how to approach Digital Transformation. During this, he covered leadership, teamwork, collaboration, science, and technology… on this planet and off it. But there was one key point he made that stood out: the human experience.

The Human Experience

Hadfield stressed the importance of the human experience in your digital transformation process. As a 10-year-old kid, Chris didn’t watch the moon landing and marvel at the technology needed to achieve it. Instead, he looked at Armstrong, Aldrin and Collins. Human beings are 384,400 km away from, making history. Similarly, your employees won’t buy into the technology of digital transformation. Try telling your employees that your new enterprise app will use AI and proactive experiences to boost their efficiency by 50%… Hardly inspiring stuff, right?

When it comes to inspiring innovation in your business or onboarding employees onto enterprise apps, you have to take a more human approach. This shouldn’t be an afterthought, it should be built into the business case for your mobile app right from the beginning. Show your staff the real-world benefit to them personally, not as a collective workforce and not just from a productivity perspective. Enterprise apps are really, really good at taking the hassle out of overly-complicated processes. That’s great for efficiency, but what does it mean on a personal level?

It means your employees are freed up to focus on more engaging, less frustrating tasks! So, let them know!

Unlocking Digital Transformation

When it comes to digital transformation, taking a human approach is essential. But, as we know, there are still so many other roadblocks to tackle. The bigger your business, the slower you move whether it’s because too many stakeholders get involved or an efficiency-obsessed company culture. This is why we recommend the Lighthouse Project approach to app development. By choosing highly-focused, short-term projects you can take ideas to proofs-of-concept much faster and without interruption.

Are you ready to unlock digital transformation with an enterprise app? Right now, we’re helping multinational companies use this method to drive innovation and test out cutting-edge mobile technology. If you’ve got a project in mind, then we would love to hear from you.
