The Challenge

Bullitt Group, a key partner of Caterpillar, designs and distributes rugged mobile devices for tough working environments.

Together, they saw that construction firms with high-value equipment were losing time and money to tools being misplaced, stolen or damaged across multiple, fast-moving job sites.

As part of an R&D project, they needed a platform that could track every asset over an experimental IoT network, and that workers would actually use on site.

Why it Mattered

Cost Control

Lost and damaged tools result in expensive replacements, so providing visibility over high-value equipment protects the bottom line.

Project Pace

Missing or faulty equipment stalls work, and the right tools need to be in the right place at each build stage.

Worker Adoption

On a busy site, any tool that slows workers down gets ignored, so it was imperative that the platform supported workers’ existing processes.

Complex Organisations

Managers needed control over assets across multiple sites, teams and access levels from one place.

How we Helped

Discovery

Worked with Bullitt and its hardware team to map stakeholders and their goals. We proved that tracking tools, their status and location mattered to everyone from managers to workers on site.

UX & UI Design

We designed fast, simple journeys for rugged devices in harsh conditions, so registering a tool or reporting a fault takes seconds.

Build & Integration

Built the platform on Microsoft Azure, running over Verizon and Telstra networks. We integrated it with Bullitt’s third-party providers to create a hiring marketplace for when inventory runs out.

Quality Assurance

Tested across devices, networks and real-world site scenarios to ensure reliable performance in the field.

The Impact

Construction teams can now see where every tool is, who used it last and whether it’s fit for the job.

Workers register assets and flag faults in a few taps, and managers get real-time visibility and set access by user or role. They can also trigger alerts when equipment leaves a site.

Teams can book and reserve tools against project timelines and hire extra kit through the integrated marketplace when the inventory is maxed out.

The result is a platform that removes paper-work, protects high-value equipment and drives efficiency on every site.
