Seven in 10 Enterprises Collecting IoT Data

More than seven in 10 enterprises are now reportedly gathering IoT data, despite ongoing security concerns. Analyst firm 451 Research have revealed that 90% of enterprises will increase their IoT spending over the next 12 months. While 42% of respondents say they use IoT data to develop new products or enhance existing products and services.

App Revenue Increased by 40% in 2016, says App Annie

Analysts App Annie has revealed that downloads, revenue and time spent in mobile apps all grew by double digits in 2016. Worldwide app downloads grew 15%, revenue grew by 40% and the amount of time in apps also grew by more than 25%. The same report also reveals that Black Friday was the first day to ever generate over $1 billion in U.S online mobile sales.

Image Recognition & AR used in Real-Estate App

Image recognition and augmented reality have been adopted by Realtor.com in its Android app, which aims to provide users with on-demand property details. By scanning a sale or letting sign, users will be presented with a range of information on the respective property. Including prices and additional photographs. In future versions, this information can be obtained by simply holding a smartphone camera up to the property itself.

App Store Broke Records on New Year’s Day

Apple announced that the App Store experienced its busiest day ever on New Year’s Day. A total of $240 million was generated from app downloads, capping a record-breaking holiday season and a year of groundbreaking applications. It was also reported that developers earned over $20 billion from mobile apps in 2016, up 40% from 2015.

Oxfam’s new app puts donators in full control

Not-for-profit organisation Oxfam has launched an app aimed at specifically giving its supporters/donators more control. The app, My Oxfam, offers real-life stories, live updates on emergencies and video messages from the Oxfam team. The new app allows users to manage how much they donate each month, straight from their device.

NHS launches A&E mobile app

The North Midlands NHS Trust has developed a mobile app, named Live Wait Times, which allows patients to view A&E waiting times at north Wales hospitals. You can download the app on both iOS and Android devices now. The app provides users with real-time information on waiting times and how busy other departments are throughout the day.
