Project Aims

TravelHers aims to create a community platform that connects women, helping them feel safe and confident when traveling solo. Many women often stick to familiar places or avoid travel altogether due to safety concerns, which remain their top priority.  

TravelHers initially approached Sonin for a Product Strategy Workshop to understand their market and user needs for an app designed to connect women traveling solo. The app aims to create a safe platform for women to share journey details, connect with other solo travelers nearby, and plan community events based on shared travel interests.

Our mission was to conduct user research to identify key features that address these needs. Using the findings, we would develop a user-friendly prototype with a seamless journey, ensuring a sense of safety while highlighting the joy of adventure.

Key UX and UI Features

Keeping You Safe

The safety of women while traveling is a top priority for this app. We designed the user interface (UI) with this focus in mind. The use of clean, white space creates a friendly and inviting atmosphere, while the rounded corners contribute to a sense of comfort. For screens where confidence and safety are crucial, we opted for less rounded corners to evoke stability and reassurance.

Ensuring Accessibility

Every screen is designed to meet AA accessibility standards. This ensures clear colour contrast between text and background for high readability. The content on each page follows a logical order to facilitate ease of use, and the navigation throughout the app remains consistent.

Designed for On-the-Go

Traveling often means being on the move between cities and adventures. Users of TravelHers will likely check the app while on the go, so we made it straightforward to use, minimising stress and cognitive load. The UI incorporates clean designs, ample white space, and friendly, rounded corners, along with simple scrolling for quick interactions. The user experience (UX) ensures that whether a user is left- or right-handed or using one hand, they can easily scroll, tap, and access all essential features.

Inspiring Travel

The image-led design of the app aims to inspire users to travel. Featuring captivating visuals from adventures around the world, the app encourages users to share their own travels and plan future trips. The TravelHers logo, depicting a flying bird, symbolises freedom and adventure, further motivating users to explore.

The Story

The Challenge

TravelHers approached Sonin as a start-up seeking Product Strategy support for their innovative concept.

Their goal was to create a safe digital platform that connects a community of aspirational women embarking on solo adventures.

Research indicates that personal safety is the primary concern for solo female travelers. The TravelHers platform aims to address this issue by enabling like-minded women to share their journeys and build a supportive, confident community. 

The Approach

Sonin conducted a Product Strategy Workshop with TravelHers to understand their business, their customers and their goals.

We took our findings into market research to understand where the platform would sit in the travel industry, understand any hurdles and how the app could not only deliver for its customers but also provide a return on investment for TravelHers.  

User research into TravelHers key customer-base of ‘Aspirational Women’ was vital.

What are their travel goals?

What are their concerns and pain points?

What would they want a solo female-only travel app to deliver for them?

This research gave us a deeper level of understanding of what this app could bring and where it would sit in the market. We also observed people travelling to understand how the users interact with apps on-the-go and frustrations to be able to design the right app. 

The Outcome

Meeting with TravelHers to discuss their needs and goals during our Product Strategy Workshop allowed us to gain a comprehensive understanding of their business, target users, and the app’s market landscape.

Building on this foundation, we developed a high-fidelity user interface to prove the concept of the TravelHers app and bring the vision to life.

The resulting clickable prototype showcases several key elements of the platform, enabling TravelHers to demonstrate the app to potential stakeholders and secure investment for the development phase.
