Meet the Client

IonX (formerly Dense Air) is a leader in shared mobile infrastructure, working to reshape connectivity through open-access, neutral host networks. Their BEACH initiative (Broadband, Edge and Analytics for Community Hyperconnectivity) was selected as a flagship project under the UK Government’s Open Networks Ecosystem programme.

Working with IonX we were tasked with developing two critical components: a modular data-capture SDK and the NQT app, a field testing tool used by IonX engineers to conduct in-depth, on-the-ground diagnostics. From the outset, the SDK was designed to be lightweight, privacy-conscious, and easy to deploy across multiple platforms.

A National Model for Shared Network Infrastructure

Following the success in Worthing, the BEACH model is now being explored as a scalable approach for other UK towns and cities. Worthing now stands as a living case study for what’s possible when forward-thinking councils, academic institutions, and private partners align.

The project proves that with the right mix of technology, governance, and user-centred design, it’s possible to deliver connectivity that’s inclusive, efficient, and sustainable.

And with open RAN technology and smart data capture at its core, the model is ready to scale—nationally and globally.

Key Features

Integrated SDK deployment – Cross‑platform support for iOS & Android, designed for performance, privacy and ease of deployment.

Live, real‑world data collection – Continuous, anonymised background capture of mobile signal strength, connection types, noise ratios and download speed.

User‑centred opt‑in experience – Transparent permissions, onboarding flows, clear value‑exchange for residents.

Embedded within existing infrastructure – SDK inserted into My Worthing app rather than building a separate application, minimising friction and accelerating uptake.

Privacy by design & policy‑aligned innovation – Full compliance with mobile platform privacy standards; aligned with national open‑network strategy.
